ESP32-S2/S3/C3 Now Supported by Arduino Cloud

Reporting from Shanghai, China
Oct 5, 2022

Arduino is committed to making the list of devices it supports on its platforms grow; hence, ESP32-S2, S3, and C3 have been added to this list.

Arduino Cloud* is Arduino’s integrated platform for developing, deploying, and managing IoT devices in an easy way. It supports a broad list of hardware including not only Arduino boards but also ESP32- and ESP8266-based boards. Arduino is committed to making this list of devices grow and, as a result of this effort, ESP32-S2, S3, and C3 have been added to the list of supported devices.

ESP32 devices are among the most widely used processors in the IoT world, due to their low cost, high level of integration and great performance. In fact, they have become the hardware of choice not just for hobbyists and developers who want to create smart-home gadgets, but also for a number of industries, including consumer electronics, wearables, industrial control, etc.

Furthermore, developers can use the same Arduino IDE to program Arduino and ESP32 boards, while reusing code and sketches between the two is also an option! But what if a developer wants to go a step further and manage their devices remotely?

This is exactly the purpose that Arduino Cloud serves. It is an online platform that enables users:

  • to develop their software online with the Web Editor and keep their sketches in the Cloud;
  • to deploy and manage their devices with the IoT Cloud, which allows them to create custom dashboards that can be accessible remotely from a browser or the mobile app.

All that is possible with just an integrated unique platform which benefits from the rich collection of Arduino’s libraries, examples and tutorials that help developers get at speed with minimum effort.

The three new ESP32-based series that are now supported by Arduino Cloud are the popular ESP32-S2, S3, and C3.

  • ESP32-S2 is a highly integrated, low-power, single-core Wi-Fi microcontroller designed to be secure and cost-effective, with a high performance and a rich set of IO capabilities.
  • ESP32-S3 is a dual-core XTensa LX7 MCU, capable of running at 240 MHz. Apart from its 512 KB of internal SRAM, it also comes with integrated 2.4 GHz, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 5 (LE) connectivity that provides long-range support. It has 45 programmable GPIOs and supports a rich set of peripherals. ESP32-S3 supports larger, high-speed octal SPI flash, and PSRAM with configurable data and instruction cache.
  • ESP32-C3 is a cost-effective RISC-V MCU with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5 (LE) connectivity for secure IoT applications.

Getting up and running with ESP32-S2, S3, and C3 boards on the Arduino Cloud is truly simple. Just follow the Arduino tutorials that show how to get started with the web editor and how to get started with ESP32 boards on the IoT Cloud.
